It’s been an incredible season for Michigan State University and Tom Izzo. Watching this team win game after game almost makes one think about the 2000 National Championship team. I’m not saying these guys are going to go all the way, but they certainly could, and that would be a beautiful thing for Spartan fans.

Wednesday night’s (February 26) game between No. 8 ranked Michigan State and No. 16 Maryland went down to the wire. The game ending was one of the craziest I’ve ever seen, and Izzo could probably say the same thing.

Crazy End to a Wild Game: MSU vs. Maryland

The Michigan State Spartans squeaked a win past the Terps 58-55 on a Tre Holloman half-court buzzer beater.

Following the game, Izzo was proud of his team, and it was so nice and refreshing to give them lots of props publicly. I wrote a piece a few days about about how Izzo wasn’t giving his team enough credit, instead pointing out their weaknesses, but he did a total change after this game.

“That was a lucky shot, but nobody can say we didn’t deserve to win this game,” Izzo said. “We made some bad mistakes, give them [Maryland] credit. We threw the ball away a little bit and everything, but we deserved to win this game. To come into this place, I’m so proud of my guys.”

I’m so happy to see Izzo give his team the credit they deserve.

“They’re home-grown, man,” Izzo added. “They play for the guys before them, they care about Michigan State. I mean, I can’t tell you how proud I am of my team and those guys, and God bless them.”

People Noticing MSU is Back

Others are noticing, too. As college sports expert and analyst Tom Cavanaugh stated, “There is something about this particular Izzo-coached team that is void of an off-switch.”

Cavanaugh added, “No matter the score, the circumstance, or the location, this Spartan team finds a way to scratch, claw, and fight to the final buzzer to find a win. That is a sign of a good team and a Tom Izzo-coached team.”

Following the game, Maryland’s coach was sad but not despondent.

Kevin Willard told the press, “This is a tough way to lose a game, but give them credit they came back. Holloman hadn’t made a shot all night, so once he released it, I knew that thing was going in.”

MSU has two home games left in the regular season and three games total. Then, it’s on to March Madness.
