Spring officially starts on March 20, which marks the spring equinox and the first day of spring in the United States. The spring equinox begins right at 5:01 a.m., the very moment the sun’s rays shine directly on the equator, according to the Farmer’s Almanac. Also, the March equinox is when the Sun crosses the equator from south to north, which happens on March 20-21, according to Time and Date.

In honor of all things spring, let’s get into some spring trip ideas that are perfect for the season. These are good for next season, too, if you’re too late to book.

Spring Trip Ideas

Central Texas

The folks at Lonely Planet love central Texas for a spring getaway, thanks to it’s beautiful wildflowers. “Come April, Texas bluebonnets bloom into a gorgeous wave of indigo that covers acres and acres of fields in the countryside surrounding San Antonio and Austin, through hill country and beyond,” they state. “And the bluebonnets don’t stand alone – you’ll also see prickly poppies, firewheels, winecups and more, all bringing their vibrant colors to Texas’ wide-open fields.”

Atlanta, Georgia

The experts at Conde Nest Traveler say Atlanta, Georgia, is a perfect spring trip spot for families. “Visitors of all ages with a sweet tooth will gravitate towards Atlanta’s World of Coca-Cola museum,” they add. “The namesake drink was invented in downtown Atlanta by pharmacist John S. Pemberton in 1886, and this is the brand’s temple—a 92,000-square-foot interactive museum that’s drawn more than 25 million caffeine-seeking visitors since 1990.”

Orlando, Florida

Hotels thinks the classic trip to Orlando, Florida, is a great pick. “Orlando is a Floridian mecca that has long been on top of the list for family getaways in the US. This is largely thanks to the over-a-dozen theme parks that call the city home. There are numerous water parks, plus Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando, among the big, unmissable names.” While Orlando is their top pick, they also recommend Cancun, Mexico, as “a great springtime escape south of the border.”

St. Lucia

U.S. News and World Report names St. Lucia their No. 1 best place to visit in spring of 2025. They recommend planning a spring getaway there before the wet season begins in June. “Daytime temperatures consistently sit in the 80s on this Eastern Caribbean island, so visitors can spend their days soaking up some sun on the palm-fringed beaches and hiking the volcanic Pitons,” they add. “Visiting late in the season has added perks, including cheaper airfare and hotel rates (making it easier to splurge for that all-inclusive resort) and the Saint Lucia Jazz & Arts Festival, which takes place from late April to early May.”

Grand Rapids, Michigan

This may seem like an odd one, but I’m naming Grand Rapids a great spring destination, simply because the Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park is beautiful in the spring. It’s lovely any time of year, but spring is when it really starts blossoming. “A destination marrying world-renowned sculpture and horticultural landscapes, Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park’s indoor and outdoor gardens and sculpture galleries hold something for the whole family to enjoy,” they state on their website. “Tours, programs and interactive activities are available for visitors throughout the year.”
