Protect Our Care is going around the country with their “Care Force One” bus and made a stop in Bloomfield Hills, near Detroit, on Wednesday, October 30.
The bus stop was an effort, according to a release, to “spotlight the threat Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans pose to American health care. As they fight to raise costs on working families, deny coverage for pre-existing conditions, and repeal the Inflation Reduction Act and Affordable Care Act, the Biden-Harris administration continues to improve access to quality and affordable health care.”

During the event, Congresswoman Haley Stevens, Oakland County Commissioner Dave Woodward and Michigan senior advocate Eric Schneidewind talked about how Michiganders can benefit from new savings. The savings “include a $35 cap on insulin per month and limiting out-of-pocket prescription drug costs each year at $2,000,” according to a release. “Additionally, health care reforms protect seniors from drug company price hikes and empower Medicare finally to negotiate lower prescription drug prices.”
Speaking about the event and cause, Stevens said, “President Biden, Vice President Harris, and House Democrats have drastically lowered costs for Michigan seniors through common sense policy like the Inflation Reduction Act. That’s why I was thrilled to support this important legislation and will continue to work hard in Congress to keep costs down to make sure seniors’ dollars go farther so they can buy gifts for their grandkids, visit family, or just live without the intense stress of affording the medication they need.”
“Former President Trump and his followers have tried to take health care away from Michiganders before – and they’ll try again given the chance,” Woodward added. “They’ll start by targeting the Affordable Care Act and the Inflation Reduction Act, which are helping millions of people in Michigan, including here in Oakland County. Michiganders are ready to hold Trump and his supporters like Congressman John James accountable for opposing pro-patient health care policies.”
“Protect Our Care’s Care Force One is crisscrossing the nation with one message: lower costs are here and we’re not going back,” Protect Our Care Michigan State Director Dianne Byrum said in a statement. “We are at a crossroads. As the Biden-Harris administration continues to improve access to quality and affordable health care, Republicans like Congressman John James and senate candidate Mike Rogers support raising health care costs on working families.”
Byrum added, “They want to repeal the Inflation Reduction Act and Affordable Care Act to go back to the days when insurance companies made the rules and could deny people coverage and give more tax breaks to big corporations and the wealthiest Americans. We’ve come a long way, and we cannot go back.”
The Bus Keeps Going
On Thursday, October 31, the “Lower Costs, Better Care” tour will hit Ohio. There’s nothing scary about good health care, but it’ll still be a fun Halloween stop.
Over six weeks, Care Force One is traveling to more than 17 states, make more than 50 stops and travel nearly 12,000 miles spreading its message. The tour kicked off in Duluth, Minnesota, on Monday, September 23. Find the full list of stops on their website.
