I’m shocked. Listen, I know the Seahawks didn’t make it to the playoffs this year. But, I don’t think anyone in the NFL is or should be blaming the Hawks’ head coach, Pete Carroll. Except, it appears that some are blaming him, because Pete Carroll is no longer the Seattle Seahawks’ head coach.

Adam Schefter of ESPN broke the news on Wednesday (Jan. 10). On X (formerly Twitter), he stated, “A shocker in Seattle: Pete Carroll is expected to be out as the Seahawks head coach, per sources. He still could remain in the organization, but not as the head coach.”

The Seahawks’ chair, Jody Allen, confirmed the news. “After thoughtful meetings and careful consideration for the best interest of the franchise, we have amicably agreed with Pete Carroll that his role will evolve from Head Coach to remain with the organization as an [adviser],” Allen said in a statement.

“Pete is the winningest coach in Seahawks history, brought the city its first Super Bowl title, and created a tremendous impact over the past 14 years,” the statement continued. “His expertise in leadership and building a championship culture will continue as an integral part of our organization moving forward. Pete will always be a beloved member of the Seahawks family.”

This just blows my mind. Carroll is someone who continuously made lemonade out of lemons. He didn’t have the best to work with in Seattle towards the end, but he still made it work. If they didn’t have Carroll at the helm, I think Seattle’s season would have ended much worse than it did.

Now, the statement says that Carroll will stay on as an “advisor,” whatever the heck that means. But, listen, Carroll, if there’s an opportunity to go serve as head coach somewhere else, take it. I’m a Detroit Lions fan, and if we weren’t in so solid with Dan Campbell, I would beg you to come here.

Carroll still has a lot of good coaching left, and he’s a strategist. And listen, Carroll, this whole “advisor” thing sounds like someone breaking up with you but not wanting to see you date other people.

That said, I truly hope Carroll pops up somewhere else as head coach next season.

One of Carroll’s biggest highlights with the Seahawks was leading the team’s rebuild in the mid-2010s. Let’s not forget about the Seattle Seahawks being crowned Super Bowl champions after they dominated the Denver Broncos, 43-8, in Super Bowl XLVIII.

Carroll served as the head coach of the Seattle Seahawks from 2010 to 2023. That’s a long time, but not quite as long as someone like Bill Belichick. Carroll has also been VP of football operations since 2010. This year, Carroll helped the Seahawks close out the season with a 9–8 record. But, during the final date of the regular season, Seattle was eliminated from the playoffs after the Green Bay Packers beat the Chicago Bears. Even though the Seahawk and Packers has the same record, the Packers held the playoff tiebreaker over the Seahawks. I can’t help but wonder if they would have kept Carroll if the Seahawks did make it to the playoffs or if this was already a done deal.

Again, I don’t get it. But,
