Many people are wondering why Aaron Rodgers missed minicamp this year. I mean, he wasn’t even able to play with the New York Jets last year, so seeing him absent from minicamp was a bit of a shock. Actually, now that I think about it, it wasn’t a shock. Rodgers is known for his erratic behavior, and that’s just part of it. But, here’s the reason Aaron Rodgers missed minicamp this season.
Aaron Rodgers Missed Minicamp Because He Was on Vacation in Egypt
I hear Egypt is beautiful this time of year. Yes, Aaron Rodgers missed minicamp because he was on vacation in Egypt.
Rodgers opened up about hisĀ absence from New York Jets‘ minicamp in June by speaking on the “Pardon My Take” podcast about the fact that he was on vacation in Egypt at the time. He added that minicamp isn’t what it used to be.
“They can arbitrarily put a tag on whatever week of OTAs they want and say, ‘This is the minicamp week,’ which makes it somehow more mandatory than the other weeks,” Rodgers said. “But it was an OTA schedule. That’s how words can be a little deceiving from time to time. They can make a story out of the fact that I missed a minicamp, but it was really two OTA days, but [I] came to the first 10.”
Rodgers did talk about the significant impact that minicamps had on his career over the years. But, per the Collective Bargaining Agreement, minicamps are mandatory for the players, so he was subject to a fine for missing it.
In crazier news, during the chat, Rodgers was also asked about his name being floated round as a vice president candidate with Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
“I thought about and then I just kept living my life,” Rodgers said. He added that since he wanted to keep playing football, that was a big factor of why the vice president nomination didn’t happen. Really?
Now, the New York Jets will kick off training camp on Tuesday (July 23), and Rodgers will be there.
So, Rodgers is 40 years old, a four-time MVP and entering his 20th NFL season. How much longer will he stay in the game? He wasn’t he isn’t sure, but he think he can make the Jets Super Bowl champs before he retires.
“This one, for sure,” Rodgers said. “I wanted to do two good ones to give us a chance, to retire a Jet, win two Super Bowls.”
The Jets are not Super Bowl favorites this year, but if Rodgers is on his A-game, that could very well change. The team’s first regular-season game is Monday, Sept. 9, against the San Francisco 49ers in California. So, the guys will kick off Monday Night Football in style. They also have a pre-season game kicking off Saturday, Aug. 10, with the Jets against the Washington Commanders.
