“Monday Night Football” on September 30 will feature the Detroit Lions against the Seattle Seahawks at Ford Field in Detroit. It’s going to be a big game, since these teams are NFC rivals and the Hawks have managed to beat the Lions nine of out the past 10 times they’ve played in the past decade. They’re also beat them the past six consecutive matchups. Those watching the game will notice a big different in the Lions look: black uniforms.

Detroit Lions’ Alternate Uniforms

In April, the Detroit Lions announced that their black alternate uniforms were back. This marks the first time they’re wearing them since 2007, when head coach Dan Campbell actually played for the Lions. I’m happy to see the black over the all-gray uniforms, which looked like old, worn out sweatpants. But, they never announced when the black uniforms would debut in the 2024 season. Now, we have an answer.

Speaking on the Detroit Football Network podcast following the Detroit Lions’ Week 3 win over the Arizona Cardinals, Lions beat writer and expert Justin Rogers announced that the Lions would wear the black jerseys on Monday Night Football, September 30, after getting the clearance to announce the news.

“I will break some news and confirm that the black jerseys are coming out next week for their debut,” Rogers said on the podcast. “Been sitting on that for a week. I also know the second game they’re wearing them, so come back for that. That might be a little story next week.”

So, you can expect to see those black uniforms next Monday night against the Seattle Seahawks. Rogers also said that he knows when the second game the Detroit Lions will wear them will take place, but he didn’t drop those details.

Detroit Lions Socials Tease Black Uniforms

If you need more proof, the Lions social media team has also teased the black uniforms being worn against the Seattle Seahawks. The team’s entire X profile appears to reveal the black shade. While the Lions haven’t officially announced the black uniforms, it seems like a done deal.

In other news, various NFL experts and analysts are giving the Lions props for their road win against the Cardinals.

Nate Davis of USA Today wrote, “DE Aidan Hutchinson is still on fire, (prematurely) paced toward 37 sacks. His team will need that kind of pressure against this week’s opponent, Seattle, which has beaten the Lions six straight times – the average score of the past three meetings 45-35.”

The 33rd team’s Marcus Mosher stated, “The Detroit Lions haven’t been as dangerous on offense this year as expected, but the defense showed up in a big way on Sunday. They allowed just 13 points to the Cardinals in Arizona and allowed 277 yards of offense. Detroit’s offense will eventually start to click, but it’s encouraging to see the defense playing this well early in the year.”

CBS Sports’ Pete Prisco said, “After losing to the Bucs, they bounced back against the Cardinals with a victory. But they still don’t quite look like the team we expect to see.”
