Bush broke out on the ‘90s with omnipresent alternative rock hits such as “Comedown,” “Chemicals Between Us,” “Machinehead,” “Everything Zen,” “Glycerine” and “Little Things.”

Like many ‘90s bands, Bush took a few years off from recording new music and touring, but now, the band is back and has hits that take them straight into this year.

Bush’s biggest gap between albums was 2001’s “Golden State” thought 2011’s “The Sea of Memories.” The latter was the first to feature guitarist Chris Traynor and bass player Corey Britz. The album’s lead single, “The Sound of Winter,” became the first independently-released song to hit No. 1 on Billboard’s alternative rock chart.

Traynor was somewhat surprised by the success of “The Sound of Winter,” in a good way. Considering how many of Bush’s hits are in the past, Traynor wasn’t sure how fans would take to “Winter.”

“With a band like Bush that has such a huge back catalog of hits and the way the climate and industry for rock bands is right now, I didn’t really have the big expectations for ‘The Sound of Winter,’” Traynor told sister site Alternative Fix. “I thought in my heart it was good, but I couldn’t have expected it would be the second longest No. 1 single this band has ever had.”

He added, “Besides Jane’s Addiction, I think it’s the longest time between No. 1s any rock band has had and the first self-released song in the history of the Billboard charts to be No. 1. So, I was surprised and very grateful.”
