The New York Jets have been doing some big moves lately, including letting head coach Robert Saleh go way before the season was even over. The latest move is finally bringing on star wide receiver Davante Adams from the Las Vegas Raiders, which was talked about for some time now.

Davante Adams to the Jets

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported on Tuesday, October 15, per sources, that the two teams have finalized a deal. So, who gets what? The Raiders will get a conditional 2025 third-round pick in exchange for Adams, according to Rapoport and NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero, per sources.

Also, the third-rounder can become a second-round pick if Adams becomes a first- or second-team All-Pro this season or if he’s on the active roster and the Jets make the AFC Championship Game or Super Bowl LIX, Pelissero reports. That’s a lot of red tape, if you ask me, and some are saying the Raiders got the better deal.

Pelissero also said that the New York Jets have agreed to take on the rest of Adams’ salary to make this deal final, per a source. Adams’ base salary is $16.89 million, plus he has $510,000 in per-game active roster bonuses. The Jets will pay the prorated portion, which is $11.6 million.

Adams is apparently already in the Jets’ building and ready to do a routine physical, Rapoport says. Adams has been out the past three games because of a hamstring injury, but Rapoport reported he’s doing fine and the injury is in a good place.

Davante Adams is ‘Feeling Great’

Adams made a surprise appearance on The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday, October 15, with Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who Davante Adams played with for eight years a Green Bay Packer. On the show, he said he’s “feeling great.”

“Was working with the staff over in Vegas the whole time. They got me back right,” Adams said. “Fortunately, I’ll be ready to roll. I’m sure there’s a few new little nuances but for the most part a lot of the same verbiage. Still the same O.G. right here. Should be able to pick up where we left off. That’s the idea.”

So, how does Adams fit in the Jets’ offense?

NFL expert and analyst Rich Cimini of ESPN states, “It’s hard to integrate a new receiver into an offense during the season, but this isn’t your typical situation because of the previous chemistry between Adams and Rodgers. Once upon a time, they were magic together. They shared that rare telepathy that great receivers and quarterbacks have. They might not be able to recapture it by flicking a switch, but it shouldn’t take that long. Their background is the reason why this could actually work.”

He added, “The playbook will be interesting. Adams is familiar with offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett from their time together in Green Bay (2020-2021), but Hackett — demoted last week — is no longer calling the shots or the plays. They’re still running his system, but it wasn’t his system in Green Bay; it was Matt LaFleur’s. This will require some adjustment for Adams.”
