One of the biggest beefs I have with football is that the season is so short. Major League Baseball season enjoys a whopping 162 games. That goes for Minor League Baseball, too. That’s huge. That means a game, per team, is played almost every other day of the year. I don’t know how those guys do it. Of course, as much luck has it, I don’t like baseball, so I can’t stand seeing those games on TV all the time. But, the good news is that football is really a year-round sport.
Baseball is a much less physically taxing sport, so those guys can play 162 games a year. But, football is very physically rough. The National Football League’s season only has 17 games. That’s so few compared to 162. I truly wish the season was longer, but I know that’s not practical.
What about other sports? Each team in a standard NBA season plays 82 games. Moreover, each team in a standard NHL season also plays 82 games.
Football Is a Year-Round Sport
But, all is not lost. The point of this story is to highlight that football is really a yearlong sport. I’m not talking about the USFL and XFL, even though I think it’s great that those leagues are happening. What I mean is that the interest in NFL football is just as high during the off season as it is during the season.
The second the Super Bowl wrapped up earlier this year and the Kansas City Chiefs were declared victors, the buzz about the NFL Draft started. I hadn’t paid as much attention during the off season in past years, but since I’m not a sports writer and podcasters, I decided to take a look. Wow. Let me just say that day after day, something would break in the NFL world that was worth covering. Whether it was the draft or random trades or players becoming free agents, the interested in football lasted year-round.
Now, we’re coming up on the start of the NFL 2023 season. And, the buzz is big. But, what’s cool is that I’ve felt that buzz all spring and summer, because football is a year-round sport. There’s really no denying the power and popularity of football.
