Tommy DeVito is a hero of sorts for not just New York Giants fans, but also for his hometown.

Let’s get into the history. The Giants kicked their season off with a 40-0 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, and that trend continued. In fact, they were 2-7 when they went up against the Las Vegas Raiders on Nov. 5. Then, starting quarterback Daniel Jones got injured with a torn ACL, which is a season-ending injury. As it turned out, believe it or not, backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor got a rib injury one week prior, so he wasn’t able to play, either.

Urgh. The Giants seemed doomed to a dismal season. But, what fans didn’t know what that a miracle was about to happen.

Meet Tommy DeVito, a loveable, hometown, Italian-American New Jersey kind of guy. DeVito was the Giants’ third-string rookie quarterback. This guy is everything you would expect from everyone’s favorite Jersey boy. He still lives with his mom and dad and loves it. He eats chicken cutlets for dinner. He’s just a hometown boy.

“I still have my mom make my bed,” he said when asked about his living arrangements (via Marca.com). “Everything outside football is taken care for me. To be honest, I don’t even know whether I could find a location that is closer than home. It takes me 12 minutes to get here.”

He added, “This decision was made since this level of football is stressful for a rookie, especially from the quarterback position.”

It makes sense, right?

Now, the Giants are on a roll. They could even make it to the playoffs. They just beat the oh-so buzzed-about Green Bay, after all. And, his teammates love him.

“I love the whole storyline,” running back Saquon Barkley said in an interview with Fox Sports. “I love that he’s from Jersey, he lives with his parents, and he’s the starting quarterback of the New York Giants. That whole thing is something I’d do in ‘Madden.’ I would go and draft or pick an undrafted guy and put him on my team and just make him into a superstar.”

Giants head coach Brian Daboll is impressed with DeVito. Will he make DeVito their franchise quarterback? That remains to be seen. He told reporters following the big Green Bay win, “Still got stuff to work on, but like I said two or three times last week, I think he’s a young player that’s doing the right things and making the most of his opportunity. He earned the right to play today, and he earned the right to play the next week. The kid’s done a good job.” So, that’s not a “yes,” but we’ll take it. DeVito is moving in the right direction.

Did we mention that DeVito’s agent is a trip? His agent, Sean Stellato, was wearing a black pinstripe suit and matching fedora at the Green Bay game. His appearance went viral. It totally fits the narrative.

Regarding DeVito’s story, Stellato told CNN, “It’s local boy makes good. He’s playing for his hometown team and what he’s doing is just unbelievable for all the people in New Jersey, all the people in New York and all the Giants fans. He’s the poster child for the underdog.”
