Jim Harbaugh brought home a national championship to the Michigan Wolverines last season, and then he left college football, so he went out on top. But, he’s still not over something that happened during this time at Michigan. This one should make Michigan State Spartan fans, such as myself, happy.

Jim Harbaugh and Losing to Michigan State

You know how it is when you move on in life, but perhaps a past bad relationship or job still gets to you when you think about it? That’s apparently how Jim Harbaugh feels about one specific loss he had against Michigan State during his time coaching Wolverine football.

Of course, losing to Michigan State wasn’t exactly an anomaly. Harbaugh wrapped up his time in Ann Arbor with a 5-4 record against MSU, so even though he won more games than he lost, it wasn’t the best record ever. But, that said, one game really got to him.

Michigan State football fans certainly recall the famed 2015 Michigan vs. Michigan State game, which fans call the “Trouble With the Snap.” During that game, Michigan State closed out a win against Michigan with a fumbled punt that was returned for a touchdown. At the time, there was actually no time left in the game, so it was a crazy win.

Harbaugh was on Barstool’s Pardon My Take podcast on Monday (Aug. 5). When the topic of that game came up, he didn’t want to talk about it and called it “a top five worst thing that has ever happened in my life.” That’s a pretty negative statement.

Harbaugh better be over that game, because he’s moved on to coaching the Los Angeles Chargers. It’ll be very interesting to see what he does with this franchise, as it has a lot of potential with star quarterback Justin Herbert, although Herbert was recently hurt in training camp. Sill, Harbaugh has the potential to really make this team fly, once Herbert is healthy again.

The good news for Chargers fans, and Harbaugh, is that Herbert is expected to return to the game by Week 1.

Of the injury, Harbaugh said (via ESPN.com), “The preparation, the work continues. He’s not on the field, in practice, but in the meeting room, still in the training environment, that chemistry that rapport you build with those position players, with his teammates, that continues.”

They also reported that Herbert will be on a “gradual return to play protocol.”

At the same press conference, Harbaugh praised the team’s defense, saying it was a ” very good day for the defense, and as I told them, I was very impressed with the defense. And the offense, yeah, just keep chipping away.”

The Chargers’ first game of the regular season is Sept. 5 against the Las Vegas Raiders.

As a Spartan, I’m glad to not have to see Jim Harbaugh all the time in the college football circuit. But, I follow and report on the pros, so it seems I can’t escape the guy. Despite it all, I wish him all the best.
