Talk about a dream job. According to Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich, the metal band has a full-time archivist on its staff.
“We actually have a person who works for us, Bob Pfiefer, whose full-time job is to travel the world in solitude and try and unearth Metallica tapes and Metallica first-generation masters, and that type of stuff,” Ulrich said in an interview with Revolver. “That’s literally his only job!”
With all of Metallica’s special releases packed with bonus goodies, it does make sense that they would need someone around to capture every metal moment.
Pfiefer’s catalog of Metallica material came in handy when putting together Metallica’s new deluxe “Master of Puppets” reissue, which is out today (Nov. 10).
“Everything that we could think of for Master of Puppets was unearthed,” Ulrich said. “And there were a couple of things we left out of there, mostly because it had already been out there on some bootlegs or other stuff.”

Metallica also asked for fan submissions to help put together the “Master of Puppets” reissue. They’re asking fans to send in mementos again for their upcoming reissues of “…And Justice for All” and “The Black Album.”
