The Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget has selected the official 2021 state Christmas tree.
The tree hails from the Upper Peninsula and has a unique story behind it, to boot.
“We came to the cabin for the weekend and saw a note posted that said the state of Michigan was interested in a tree growing close to the cabin,” Carla Fletcher, the tree’s owner, said in a statement. “I thought it was a joke at first, but decided to call the number. It’s amazing that our tree will travel to Lansing for the holidays.”
According to a release, the spruce tree is 63 feet tall. The Michigan Association of Timbermen and the Great Lakes Timber Professionals Association transported the tree to downtown Lansing on Tuesday (Nov. 2).
The Michigan tree lighting ceremony will take place Nov. 19 at the 35th Annual Silver Bells in the City.
