This was possibly one of the craziest weekends of football we’ve had in a while. Sunday (Oct. 15) was jam-packed with upsets and surprises. In fact, the last undefeated NFL teams of 2023 fell this weekend. Is it a coincidence that both undefeated teams, the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers, fell on the same day, or does it have something to do with it being the weekend of Friday the 13th? Who knows, but what we do know is that now, the season has changed forever.

San Francisco 49ers vs. Cleveland Browns

The San Francisco 49ers lost their first game of the season on Sunday, against the Cleveland Browns. It was close, 19-17, but a win is a win. The big play of the day was 49ers rookie kicker Jake Moody going for a 41-yard field goal with eight seconds left in the game to take the lead, but his kick went right, and Cleveland took home the win.

Even thought the 49ers lost this game, that doesn’t mean they’re a weak team, obviously. They’re 5-1. Also, they possibly would have won, if all their players were healthy. The team lost Christian McCaffrey and Deebo Samuel during the game with injuries. McCaffrey had an oblique injury, and Samuel experienced a shoulder injury.

With San Francisco falling early in the day, that left one remaining undefeated NFL team: the Philadelphia Eagles. But, that record wouldn’t stand for long.

Philadelphia Eagles vs. New York Jets

This was a loss nobody saw coming, but major kudos to the Jets for proving everyone wrong. Also, condolences to Eagles fans, as the Eagles had a whopping four turnovers during this game, resulting in their first loss of the 2023 season, 20-14. The Jets’ win over the Eagles marked the team’s first time in franchise history beating Philly, in 13 attempts.

One of the biggest plays was when Jets safety Tony Adams made a wild interception of Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts with less than two minutes remaining in the game. At this point, the Jets were behind, 14-12. Then, Breece Hall ran the ball in for a touchdown, putting them ahead. Finally, a two-point conversion toss from Zach Wilson to Randall Cobb gave the Jets a 20-14 lead. The rest is football history. Yes, the last undefeated NFL teams of 2023 have fallen.

Other weekend highlights included the Detroit Lions beating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, on the road. Unfortunately, star running back David Montgomery was injured during the game, leaving Detroit to fill with the few backups they have left. But, Jared Goff rose to the occasion and was the leader this teams has needed for a long time.
