The Philadelphia Eagles are somewhat favorites to make it to the Super Bowl in 2025. They’re not the Kansas City Chiefs or Detroit Lions, but their record is 11-2, making them one of the top teams in the NFL. Quarterback Jalen Hurts and company have been playing clean all season, and if they continue that kind of playing going into the postseason, it will be difficult to stop them.
Looking at the NFC, the biggest competition to the Eagles, of course, is the Detroit Lions. Considering the Lions have never made it to the Super Bowl and came super close by making it to the NFC championship game last season, they seem to be America’s favorites to go all the way. But, what matters is who wins, and if it becomes an Eagles vs. Lions show, you really don’t know what’s going to happen.
So, what can the Eagles do ahead of their playoff run to help secure them the best spot ahead of the Big Game? The experts at Bleacher Report have some suggestions.
The Eagles Could Sign Tight End Logan Thomas
In a December 9 feature about prioritizing each NFL team’s needs going into Week 15, Matt Holder discusses the Eagles and where they stand. He thinks that right now, they should sign tight end Logan Thomas.
“The Eagles placed Dallas Goedert on injured reserve this week, leaving the offense thin at tight end,” Holder wrote. “While he could return in time for the playoffs, it would be smart to add a veteran tight end like Thomas to the practice squad just in case. That way he can learn and get comfortable in the offense in case of an emergency heading into the postseason.”
Looking past this season, he thinks the Eagles should snag guard Brandon Scherff in 2025 free agency.
“While Scherff isn’t the same player he used to be, he’s still a solid guard who would give the offense another starting option to replace Becton,” he said. “Plus, the soon-to-be 33-year-old has only played in four playoff games in his career and would likely be willing to take a discount to play for a Super Bowl contender after a miserable season in Jacksonville.”
2025 NFL Draft Pick: Tez Johnson of the Oregon Ducks
Finally, looking at the 2025 NFL Draft, he likes wide receiver Tez Johnson of the Oregon Ducks for the Eagles.
“While Tez Johnson might get tabbed with the “slot-only” label during the pre-draft process, he could be an intriguing mid-round option for Eagles general manager Howie Roseman,” Holder noted.
“Johnson’s ability to sell vertical routes with urgency, speed, and attacking leverages puts defenders in conflict, opening access points to shallow routes,” B/R’s offensive skill positions scout Damian Parson said via the Oregon product’s scouting report.
A lot could happen between now and the Super Bowl, but these moves could help the Eagles not only this year but going forward. Last season was rough for them, and they lost almost every game during the second half of the season. But, they’re stronger and better this year.
