There’s always a lot of debate about which acts should be booked for the Super Bowl. It’s pretty much the biggest stage for entertainment in the world, so all eyes are always on the Super Bowl performer.

Rapper Jay-Z is the NFL’s live music entertainment strategist and books the halftime show performer each year. So, it’s obvious that the performers are always heavy on rap, hip-hop and Jay-Z’s artists on his Roc Nation record label.

Lil Wayne Passed Over for 2025 Super Bowl Headliner

For the 2025 Super Bowl, Jay-Z has tapped Kendrick Lamar to headline. However, Lamar doesn’t have any ties to New Orleans, the city where the Super Bowl will be taking place, which drew some criticism.

Lil Wayne is a rapped who’s actually from New Orleans, so many fans though he should be tapped to headline. He thought so, too.

Back in September, when the Super Bowl performer was announced, Wayne took to Instagram to say that not being selected to headline the show “broke me.”

“That hurt, it hurt a lot,” he said per Variety. I thought there was nothing better that spot, on that stage, on that platform. It broke me, but I’m just trying to put myself back together.”

Snoop Dogg Discusses Super Bowl Halftime Talent

Rapper Snoop Dogg has a few things to say about the matter.

During an appearance on “Drink Champs,” Dogg gave Jay-Z some props for his booking of Super Bowl artists, stating, “He’s creating a wave of artists to have an opportunity to perform.”

He also called out Lil Wayne for being a sore loser. He didn’t actually say sore loser, but he basically said Lil Wayne’s time could come.

“I was never crying about it, or mad about it…when Dr. Dre called me and asked me to get his back, I was there for him. But I didn’t feel I was supposed to or demand to be there,” Dogg said, adding, “This is a big event. People [are] looking at everything when they pick the person to perform. You should just be honored that hip-hop is being able to be seen on that platform for all of us and not hate on the next man, but be happy.”

Snoop performed at the 2022 Super Bowl Halftime show with Dr. Dre, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, 50 Cent, Kendrick Lamar and Anderson .Paak.

Aside from hip-hop, what if the Super Bowl were to book a rock act to headline the show? Jay-Z would have to do it. One rock artist on his label is Dorothy, a female hard rock singer with a total edge. Since she’s on his label, I think it would totally be reasonable to see her booked to perform. She’s fantastic live.

The only downside to having Dorothy perform is that she’s obviously not very known. She couldn’t headline the show, but I would love to see her up there with any of the other acts Jay-Z has booked to provide support.

Maybe someday we’ll see Metallica perform. They’re the biggest metal band in the world and from the U.S., so it would work. But until then, get ready to watch Lamar and company at Super Bowl 2025.
