The NFL Draft is coming up in April, and Detroit Lions fans are excited for this year’s round. Who will Dan Campbell and Brad Holmes pick in the draft? One thing is for sure: It will be an action-packed event.
The Detroit Lions will have some extra picks from the Matthew Stafford trade. Of course, since the Lions ended the season with a winning record, we won’t get one of the first picks this round, but the wins were worth it.
So, in the new NFL Draft, is there a player the Lions will regret not picking up and bringing to Detroit? Sports Illustrated asked some experts about that situation.
“I believe Will Anderson Jr. will be one of the top players, but there’s no guarantee he’ll be there when the Lions pick at No. 6 overall,” Christian Booher said. “In terms of players the Lions could regret passing on, I believe Joey Porter Jr. could be one of the better cornerbacks. The Lions may regret passing on him. Additionally, there’s always the chance Detroit passes on a quarterback that comes back to haunt the team.”
Vito Chirco added, “At this present juncture, I’m not able to place my finger on one player the Lions will regret not drafting. However, I will say this: If Detroit doesn’t take a defensive back in the first round, I think the organization will live to regret it.” He listed Oregon’s Christian Gonzalez, Penn State’s Joey Porter Jr., Alabama’s Brian Branch and Maryland’s Deonte Banks as some of the picks the Lions need to consider.
The NFL Draft takes place Thursday, Apr 27, through Saturday, Apr 29. Campbell and Holmes are busy looking at options and gearing up to make the big picks. There hasn’t been this much excitement around the draft for the Lions in years, since the team is now one of the most buzzed-about in the NFL. If the Lions bring on some good picks, the team could be almost a guarantee for the playoffs this upcoming season.
