The New York Giants are shaping up their 2025 squad, and it’s going to be a big year for the team.
New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll knows he has to deliver, or else he’ll be given the boot at the end of the season or even earlier. So, he’s been taking action. He and his team signed veteran quarterback Russell Wilson during the offseason. Wilson, of course, brings lots of experience. He’s won a Super Bowl and played on numerous NFL teams.
Russell Wilson’s Big Deal with the Giants
Wilson signed a one year, $10,500,000 contract with the New York Giants, including $8,000,000 signing bonus and $10,500,000 guaranteed, per Spotrac. When it comes to quarterbacks, the Giants also have Jameis Winston on their roster. So, will they still draft a quarterback early in the 2025 NFL Draft?
When the team signed Wilson, many NFL experts and analysts thought the Giants would not pick a quarterback early in the 2025 NFL Draft and instead use their No.3 pick for a different player. Then, they could draft a quarterback later in the draft, but that quarterback wouldn’t be one of the big names this year.
Before the news about Wilson broke, many thought the Giants would draft quarterback Shedeur Sanders of Colorado.
It seems Sanders still thinks this is going to be a deal. Speaking to a fan in a video released by Dov Kleiman on X on Monday, March 31, he’s seen replying, “Yeah. That’s what it is,” when asked if he’s going to New York. Watch the footage below.

What Will the Giants Do?
In a conversation with the media on Monday, March 31, Giants GM Joe Schoen said he wasn’t going to say what the New York Giants will do in the draft.
Ryan Novozinsky of NJ.com stated in a March 31 piece that Schoen said, “We can go any which direction. It doesn’t force you into a corner or force you to have to take something based on need.”
Novozinsky added that, “This change in tone comes after months of speculation that the Giants would select Shedeur Sanders, who some scouts believe is closer to most Day 2 prospects than he is to No. 1 QB prospect Cam Ward.”
So, what’s the deal? “Multiple people across the league wondered if the Giants had soured on the idea of drafting Sanders after the Winston signing,” Novozinsky continued. “The Wilson signing only added fuel to that.”
Sanders will throw at the Colorado Pro Day on Friday, April 4.
