It’s so trite to just pick the latest Super Bowl winner and say they’re the best team going into the next season. Honestly, when the Los Angeles Rams won the Super Bowl in 2022, I didn’t think they would be strong going into the next season. And, they weren’t. The Rams had a horrible season last season, so much so that they even wanted to chuck their new quarterback, Matthew Stafford, despite his huge contract. In other words, it’s not always the team that just won the Super Bowl who will shine the next season. But, the Kansas City Chiefs are special. They still have a young, solid roster and, arguably, the best quarterback in the franchise. It would be tough to go with another team as a favorite for the 2023 season. So, who’s the top NFL team going into 2023?

That said, I think the Kansas City Chiefs, once again, are the team to beat in 2023. They have he players and the coaches. They have the stats. The only thing they may not have is the motivate to do it all over again. They just won a Super Bowl, so they won’t be as hungry, perhaps, as some of the other stellar NFL teams.

ESPN has released its list of the power rankings for the NFL teams in 2023. They agree with me. The defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs are the No. 1 team in ESPN’s Football Power Index rankings for the upcoming season. However, their model actually picks the Philadelphia Eagles, who lost to the Chiefs in the Super Bowl game last season, as the Super Bowl favorite. They say that’s due to the “vast difference in quality between the NFL’s two conferences,” in that “the AFC is loaded with talent, while the NFC appears to have only a few contenders, paving the way for Philly.” I say it’s due to the Eagles having the drive to win this year. They were heartbroken with last year’s loss. Jalen Hurts isn’t going to let it happen again.

I have to also mention my team, the Detroit Lions. I think it’s time Dan Campbell should get more respect in the NFL league. Also, I think we’ll make the playoffs this year. But, that’s it. I don’t see a Super Bowl run until 2025. But, I won’t be mad if I’m wrong.
