There’s a lot of good hype surrounding the Detroit Lions right now. That’s not a bad thing, unless you believe it. What do I mean by that? Well, it’s great to have promise going into the Lions’ upcoming season. But, if you’re head coach Dan Campbell or any part of his roster, you can’t just think you’re going to win because everyone expects it. Basically, Dan Campbell shouldn’t believe the Lions hype.

That’s the reasoning going into a recent comment from Former Atlanta Falcons General Manager Scott Pioli about the Detroit Lions. Pioli is a big fan of the team and Campbell. He has said that he thinks they made smart draft picks and seems to really care about their success. Earlier this week, Pioli went on “Good Morning Football” and gave some advice to Campbell and the Lions. It’s nice to see someone in the NFL giving Campbell such respect, by the way.

Former NFL GM Scott Pioli Says Dan Campbell Shouldn’t Believe the Lions Hype:

“Here’s the big thing there. It’s going to start with their head coach and their front office, they cannot believe the hype, if they believe the hype, they are going to become public enemy.” Pioli said. “And what I’m saying is Dan Campbell, their head coach is going to have to make sure that he manages a young football team, a team that is not very mature in years. If you look at their roster, they’ve got only four players, including their long snapper that are 30 years old or older.”

He added, “So mentally, and emotionally, this is a young football team. Dan and the front office is going to have to make sure that they manage to manage their expectations, play with confidence and feel like they’re a good team because they are a good team and they’re a well coached team. But they’re going to have to be reminded that they can’t just come out there and win games just because the public is saying something.”

It’s a good point. The team is young. That’s a good thing for the future of the franchise, if we can keep the talent. Find the Detroit Lions online here.
