I personally think that one of the signs of a good leader is the ability to be humble. Just because you’re a leader, that doesn’t mean you’re above taking criticism or advice. Being a leader means that you understand your power in the situation, but you also realize that you aren’t infallible. Jalen Hurts of the Philadelphia Eagles has taken the team to a Super Bowl, but he’s still humble.

Hurts suffered a tough loss last season, when the Eagles fell to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl. But, he didn’t let that get him down. He still has among the best quarterback stats in the league. But, he’s still humble.

A new story ESPN discusses a play that was Hurts’ mistake and how Hurts responded. “Coach Nick Sirianni gave him an earful in front of the media and gathered fans, letting him know in no uncertain terms that if time expired, it was going to be on him. Hurts said something inaudible back and Sirianni countered more emphatically.”

They added that, “After a moment of reflection, Hurts dropped to the ground and started doing pushups, owning up to his mistake.” That takes leadership, and a humble leadership.

“Everybody is worthy of being coached,” Hurts said via ESPN. “I can’t get on another guy for acting a certain type of way towards something if I’m not practicing what I’m preaching. We’re all here to learn and to continue to grow.”

It’s refreshing to see a player as advanced and looked up to as Hurts say that he still needs to “learn and to continue to grow.” It’s a lesson everyone could take. Now, the Philadelphia Eagles are favorites again to make it to the Super Bowl. Whether or not they go all the way, it will be a fun season to watch.
