I don’t want to wish the summer away, but boy, am I ready for football season. Now, with the season just a few months away, things are really heating up when it comes to predictions. That includes Jared Goff contract predictions, even though his contract isn’t quite up.
Connor Orr of Sports Illustrated recently wrote an article about his 100 predictions for the 2023 NFL season. One of those involved Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff.
Jared Goff Contract
Orr says, “Jared Goff will set the table for a contract extension that tops Daniel Jones’s next year.” That’s a pretty huge predictions. Goff is an excellent quarterback, and the Lions do want to keep him, but the team isn’t known for shelving out the dollars, so we shall see.
Orr adds that Goff “is going to throw for at least 28 touchdowns and 4,400 yards. Whether or not the Lions want to keep him long-term, he’s going to make a lot of money in 2024. Goff is 28 and just rounding into the best years of his career.”
The article also points out that it wouldn’t be a shock to see the Detroit Lions decide to extend him midseason, especially if he’s having another stellar season. “Detroit is never going to lose enough games to get itself into the squalor for the Williams-Maye lottery,” Orr points out. “This is the right move.”
I agree that Detroit really needs to step it up to keep Goff. The team hasn’t had this kind of chemistry on a team in years. Make that, decades. Goff, his teammates and the coaching staff are turning this team around, and he’s the focal point of that positive change.
Switching gears, Orr also weighs in on which team he thinks will be in the best position to make the Super Bowl again. That team is the Chiefs. “Apologies to the Lions, Jaguars, Bears, Jets, Vikings, Broncos (twice), Chargers and Dolphins,” he comments. “A Super Bowl rematch against the Eagles on MNF will be the only thing standing in their way of a perfect record at Thanksgiving.”
