Like most organizations, the NFL likes to make money. So, when it comes to booking who should play the NFL season’s opening game, they want to go with the most hyped team in the NFL. That team, of course, goes up against the reigning Super Bowl champion. That’s where the Detroit Lions season opener comes into play.
In September 2022, the team booked the defending Super Bowl LVI champion Los Angeles Rams against Buffalo. The Rams lost to Buffalo, and that was really a foreshadowing of their terrible season.
But, now we’re into a new year, and the NFL has picked the perfect team to get folks across America in front of their television sets on opening day. That team is the Detroit Lions.
Dan Campbell and the Detroit Lions will reportedly kick off the 2023 season against the Kansas City Chiefs on national television. The Chiefs are the defending Super Bowl Champion, and they have a strong team again this year, so this is shaping up to be a competitive game.
Detroit Lions Season Opener
The NFL has confirmed that the Detroit Lions will travel to Arrowhead to compete against the Chiefs. The game, set for Thursday Night Football on Sept. 7, will open the entire NFL season.
The NFL will released the full NFL schedule Thursday night (May 11). We know that the Lions’ home games will be against Chicago, Green Bay, Minnesota, Atlanta, Carolina, Denver, Las Vegas and Seattle. The team’s away games will put them in competition with Chicago, Green Bay, Minnesota, Baltimore, Dallas, Kansas City, Los Angeles Chargers, New Orleans and Tampa Bay.
There something so electric about the start of the NFL season. I can lump college football into that, too. I absolutely love watching the first NFL and Michigan State University games of the season. This year will be extra sweet, because my team, the Lions, will be center stage. I’m drinking the blue Kool-Aid, my friend. Check out what Campbell has to say about the Lions’ new backup quarterback here.
