The City of Detroit is asking residents, businesses and city workers to sign up for the new emergency notification system, named Detroit Alerts 365.

Those who sign up will receive alerts on public safety matters, potential flooding, boil water alerts, severe weather, shelter-in-place notices and more.

Signing up for the high-speed system is free. Residents may receive notifications via cell phone, landline, text, email, TTY and even social media.

To receive the alerts, you must have a Detroit address. Personal data will be secured in the system, according to a statement.
