The Detroit Lions defeated the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday (Dec. 11) with a 34-23 showing. Now, the Lions are considered one of the hottest teams in the NFL, having won the past five out of six of their games.

It’s a huge deal for a team that’s known for, well, losing- a lot. The team could even be in playoff contention, if the right teams lose and they keep winning.

One major piece of the Detroit Lions puzzle is quarterback Jared Goff. Many critics have always viewed him as a bridge for the Lions, someone to assist them for now until the franchise can obtain a better starting QB. But, the Lions don’t see it that way, and after Sunday’s game against the Vikings, it’s easy to see why.

Goff is playing like a solid, starting quarterback. He’s a guy who has been to the Super Bowl, and that’s showing. His stats are impressive, and his game is getting more consistent each week.

Detroit Lions general manager Brad Holmes traded Goff in the Matthew Stafford trade back inĀ 2021 offseason. Stafford went on to win a Super Bowl with the Rams, but Detroit has benefited from picking up Goff, to boot. While Goff’s first season with the team was rocky, he’s been reliable this season- and he’s one of the main reasons they keep winning.

According to NFL.com, Goff is the Lion’s starting QB now and in the future, “not just until someone else comes along…the plan is for Goff to be in Detroit for the future.”

“Here’s the one consistent is, man, just make the right decisions, take care of the football, and he’s done that,” Lions head coach Dan Campbell said Monday (Dec. 6) after Detroit’s 40-14 win over Jacksonville. “And that’s five weeks going now and that’s a big part of the reason why we’re winning. He’s making very smart decisions and we were going to put a lot on him (Sunday) with his arm. This was going to be a big — put it in the air, we just felt like that was the way to attack this team. And he did that and then some.”
