The Detroit Lions had a victorious final game of their regular season on Sunday (Jan. 8), knocking the Green Bay Packers out of the playoffs with a solid win. It’s a feat that none of the NFL commentators on the pre-game show predicted, but boy, were those so-called experts wrong. It wasn’t just about spoiling things for Aaron Rodgers and company, though. The Lions wanted to prove to the world that they deserve respect. And, that they certainly do.
I’m very excited for the future of the Lions. One of the main reasons why I think we have a great future ahead is because of our quarterback, Jared Goff.
Jared Goff is our man. I’m sure of it. He took a lot of slack last season and early this season, but he has proven himself time and time again on and off the field this season. I believe he’s the right quarterback to lead the Lions to the playoffs next year, and the sky is the limit.
Goff is smart. He’s a good decision-maker on the field. He has great chemistry with his teammates. He gets along with the coaching staff. Most importantly, he’s humble. That’s rare in a quarterback. And that earns major points with me.
After Sunday’s game, Lions head coach Dan Campbell basically confirmed Goff will be the team’s quarterback going forward. Speaking with reporters, he said, “He’s really a perfect fit for what we do and what we ask.” I agree. “Perfect” is a strong world, but I think Goff earned it. Goff rounded out the year throwing 324 straight passes without an interception. He is on track to break the NFL record (404 attempts) early next season. Now, one of the key parts of the Lions’ rebuild is in place, and we’re going to be seeing a lot of Goff going forward. For that, I’m thankful. Go Lions.
