After spending his entire career with the Green Bay Packers, Aaron Rodgers left the franchise at the end of the last season to go to the New York Jets. Now, of course, Rodgers is out for the entire season with an injury. That’s now how Jets fans wanted to see this go down. But, Green Bay has a new quarterback in Jordan Love. In my opinion, Green Bay should lock Jordan Love in for the long-term.

First, it’s worth mentioning that Rodgers has been really supportive of Love’s position with the Jets. In fact, before Love’s first official game with the Packers, Love said that Rodgers actually texted him a supportive message. “He said just be yourself, have fun, enjoy it,” Love said (via Fox). “It’s obviously my time now, and he just said be yourself. And I mean, that’s all you can do.” That’s actually great advice.

Green Bay Should Lock Jordan Love for the Long-Term

It’s early in the season, but the Packers are 2-1, and Packers fans seem happy with that record. In fact, at of week three of the NFL, Love had been averaging 10.55 air yards per attempt, which is No. 1 in the league by a large amount. No. 2 with that stat is Deshaun Watson of the Cleveland Brows, with 9.76 air yards per attempt. The median for the NFL is 7.63, much lower than Love’s average.

I really think Green Bay lucked out with Love. He’s spent his whole career with the Packers so far, starting in 2020. He’s also very young. With the kind of stats and performance he’s been pulling during games early in the season, just think of how good Love could be on the field in a few short years. Usually, when an iconic quarterback like Rodgers leaves a team, it takes several years for a rebuild. But, that doesn’t seem to be the case in Green Bay. They’re got something solid out the gate. Don’t mess this up, guys.

It kinds of reminds me, not totally, but a bit of the Jared Goff situation in Detroit. The L.A. Rams traded Goff to Detroit. His first season was shaky with the team, to say the least. They hardly won any games. But, at the time, it was the first year that Detroit head football coach Dan Campbell was there, too. So, a new coach and quarterback in the same season is bound to give hiccups. But, last season, by the end of December, Goff’s stats were among the best in the entire league. Right now, the Lions are 2-1, which in the world of a Lions fan is incredible for a season start. As a Lion fan, I’m used to 0-5 starts to any season.

So, maybe this is the time for both Green Bay and Detroit to do a real rebuild. Maybe these teams will start to rise to the top of the league in the next few years. And, maybe this will make the NFL North that much stronger a division. Check out some underrated quarterbacks in the NFL for the current season here.
