This Thanksgiving holiday is going to be busy. According to AAA Michigan, roughly 53.4 million Americans will travel over the holiday, which is up 13% from 2020 and within 5% of pre-pandemic levels.

In Michigan alone, AAA projects roughly 1.6 million people will travel, up 14% increase from 2020 but still about 7% below pre-pandemic levels in 2019.

“It’s beginning to look more like a normal holiday travel season, compared to what we saw last year,” Debbie Haas, vice president of travel for AAA – The Auto Club Group, said in a statement.

She added, “Now that U.S. borders are open, vaccinations are readily available, and new health and safety guidelines are in place, travel is once again high on the list for Americans who are ready to reunite with their loved ones for the holidays.”

Air travel will be especially busy, as flights are 80% from last year. AAA says road travel will increase by 8%.
