The most famous Christmas tree in the U.S. has a fun story behind it.

New York City’s Rockefeller Center Christmas tree is a huge Norway spruce, clocking in at 79 feet tall and weighing 12 tons. The tree hails from Elkton, Delaware.

As WNBC-TV reports, the tree was growing came from homeowners Devon and Julie Price. Erik Pauze, the head gardener for Rockefeller Center, came to them earlier this year and inquired about using the tree for the Rockefeller Center.

The family wasn’t sure whether they wanted to say goodbye to their tree, WNBC reports. “Honestly, we said, ‘No way, you can’t have it,'” Devon Price said.

They eventually said yes. “We were very surprised, but we are happy to be able to share it with everyone,” Julie Price told WNBC. “It’s a special tree, and it will be beautiful at Rockefeller Center, and I hope everybody enjoys it.”

The tree lighting ceremony is scheduled for Dec. 1 with a live TV broadcast.
