Matthew Stafford has been in the news a lot the past few months, thanks to some rumors that the Los Angeles Rams were trying hard to trade him. I mean, he won them a Super Bowl just about a year ago, in 2022. So, to some it might be surprising that the Rams would already be trading him. But, he was injured for much of the past season, and when he did play, he didn’t play well. The Rams are not known for their loyalty, so this isn’t a shock. Either way, Matthew Stafford backup quarterbacks are finally here.

Going into the 2023 draft, the Rams were the only team in the NFL that had just one quarterback on their roster. So, it wasn’t a surprised that they’ve been working hard to right that wrong, especially because they’re going to need some quarterback help going into the new season.

It’s worth nothing that, yes, Stafford is still the main quarterback with the Rams. His contract is huge right now. After he won the Super Bowl, the Rams inked him to a big deal, so it would have been hard to trade him this year, with all that red tape.

Now, the Rams have officially signed two new quarterbacks to get behind Stafford. One is a total newbie, while the other is a veteran.

The Newbie

During the 2023 NFL Draft, the Rams drafted Georgia’s Stetson Bennett in the fourth round. He’s had a great deal of success at the college level, so he really has promise. Bennett played college football at Jones College and Georgia. His nickname is “the Mailman.” It’s always fun to watch a college quarterback move up to the NFL, so this will be a fun guy to watch.

The Veteran

This week, the Rams saw their first major outside free agent signing. They signed former Denver Bronco Brett Rypien. He’s no newbie. Rypien, who is the nephew of Super Bowl-winning quarterback Mark Rypien, played college football at Boise State and has been with the Broncos for the last four years. He has the experience the Rams need.

Meanwhile, the NFL will announce their 2023 schedule on May 11.
