They say things are unpredictable in football, but nobody saw this coming. After months and months of hype around Aaron Rodgers getting traded from the Green Bay Packers to the New York Jets, he’s out. Even if you aren’t a big Rodgers fan, this one hurts. A lot. Yes, New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is injured and will reportedly miss the remainder of the 2023 NFL season.
New York Jets Quarterback Aaron Rodgers is Injured
A Tuesday (Sept. 12) MRI has confirmed that Rodgers sustained a torn Achilles during the New York Jets’ opening game, via ESPN’s Adam Schefter. That game was against the Buffalo Bills on Monday night, where even with Rodgers, the Jets pulled off a stunning overtime victory.
“An MRI confirmed today that Aaron Rodgers officially tore his Achilles on the fourth play of his Jets’ career, ESPN’s Adam Schefter tweeted. “That means that Rodgers is out for the season. Rodgers’ season now, officially, is over. There already are questions about whether his Hall-of-Fame career is, too.”
The New York Jets also shared the news on social media. They confirmed that Rodgers is out and gave him their full support. “Not the way any of us wanted it to go, but we know the commitment you’ve made to this team will continue to impact us moving forward. Get well soon, @AaronRodgers12,” they tweeted.
Rodgers was only on the field for four plays in Monday night’s game at MetLife Stadium. So, what caused the injury? In the first quarter, Rodgers was sacked by Bills defensive end Leonard Floyd, causing the injury.
This is a huge blow to Rodgers and the Jets franchise. They were really banking on Rodgers to bring them to the playoffs. It seemed like Rodgers was the missing piece of the puzzle, and with him, the Jets would be unstoppable. So, where do they go from here? It’s a difficult question to answer, but we’ll have more insight as the days and weeks go on. For a bit more insight on what Rodgers’ injury means to the Jets, go here.
