When the Seattle Seahawks first announced they were parting ways with head coach Pete Carroll after the team didn’t make it to the playoffs this season, the wording made it sound like Carroll was sticking around Seattle. They said he would be on as an “advisor,” implying that Carroll wasn’t going to be looking for a new head coaching job in the NFL. Maybe that was wishful thinking of their part, because it appears Carroll wants to coach again, and soon.

Pete Carroll Next Job News

Carroll has an unlikely friend in rapped Snoop Dogg, so says he called Carroll as soon as he heard the bad news. In a media roundtable about his upcoming football movie, “The Underdoggs,” Snoop told FOX Sports that he was actually the first person to talk to Carroll after the Jan. 10 announcement.

“Pete Carroll – I called him the minute they fired him, because that’s my friend,” Snoop said. “His spirits were up high and he was looking forward to another team calling him.”

“That’s what coaches do, they don’t go ‘oh man, they fired me,” Snoop added. “I’m going to lose my mind. [It’s] ‘Nah, who is the next team in town, I would love to coach there. Oh, they got a great quarterback, they need this.’ That’s what we do as coaches.”

When asked where he would like to see Carroll coach now, Snoop replied, “He wanted to go to the (Los Angeles) Chargers. That’s what he wanted. But I don’t know if they want him.”

So, will Carroll go to the Chargers? It’s looking more and more unlikely. The team has reportedly made a big offer to Jim Harbaugh of the University of Michigan. Harbaugh just won the National Championship for the Wolverines, so he’s hot right now.

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo said on “The Insiders” this week that it’s just a matter of time before this deal is sealed. “My understanding is that it’s an extremely strong offer that they have made to him financially,” Garafolo said. “So, this feels like advancing to the point where if everybody’s comfortable with a lot of the principle factors at play, that this team could move on Jim Harbaugh and try to get him under contract here in the near future.”

So, who are the Seahawks looking to get to replace Carroll? Frankly, this firing seemed like a rash, last-minute decision. The Seahawks didn’t really have anyone in their back pocket, like the New England Patriots did when replacing Bill Belichick with Jerod Mayo. So, the interview process got off to a slow start. But, back on Jan. 15, Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network said that the Hawks had “begun putting out interview slips, and the first is no surprise,” adding that they requested Cowboys CD Dan Quinn, per source. Another one interviewing with the Seahawks is Raheem Morris, the defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, citing sources. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler also reported that Ejiro Evero, the defensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers, has and interview lined up. Other names in the hat include Las Vegas Raiders defensive coordinator Patrick Graham;  Miami Dolphins offensive coordinator Frank Smith; and Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson.
