I can’t even begin to explain to you how much I miss football. Don’t you? But, thankfully, I’m a big basketball fan, so I’m really getting into March Madness and the NBA. My team for college is Michigan State University and pro is the Detroit Pistons. It’s been a rough year for both teams, but I still watch and follow. I’m there for the highs and lows of any of my teams. So, what are some ways to get your fill of football fun during the offseason? Here are some ways I’m coping. Hopefully these will help you, too.

Fall in Love with Another Sport

I know. Nothing will ever replace football in your heart or mind. It is and will always be my favorite sport. But, during the offseason, you’re not really cheating if you get googly-eyed over another sport. Football doesn’t have to know, right?

The best options are the sports that are already into the season when football season wraps up: hockey and basketball. I can’t seem to get into hockey. So, it’s all about basketball for me. As I mentioned before, I’m a MSU Spartan and Detroit Pistons fan. It hasn’t been pretty for either, but I have faith in the future of these teams. But, if basketball isn’t your thing, hockey is really hitting its stride right when the Super Bowl ends. So, you’re in luck.

If you’re willing to wait a while, baseball kicks off in April. You can always get over that hump from February to April by getting into baseball spring training. April will be here before you know it.

Get into the XFL and USFL

This is another one I always try to get into and just can’t do it. The XFL and USFL have merged this year, meaning the games should be bigger and better. So, you can always get on the XFL and USFL train. If you go to the games, the good news is that tickets are really inexpensive. The bad news is that they’re usually not super packed games, so the crowds aren’t exciting. But, I have a lot of respect for the XFL and USFL. If you truly love football and can’t live without it, they will help you out.

Follow Offseason News

I write about football, both the NFL and college, and people often ask me, “How can you figure out anything to write about during the offseason?” Excuse me? There’s always so much news from February through August, so it’s never a stretch. This year is especially exciting, with one-fourth of the NFL coaches being brand new. Yes, there are eight new NFL head coaches, which should bring you lots of news to follow right now. Even if your team doesn’t have a new coach, you can follow your team’s draft picks, spring practice and so much more. Right now, there’s lots of buzz about who the Detroit Lions are going to get for their cornerback position, so I’m keeping my eye on that.

Binge a New Series

It’s not sports. But, now is the time to get caught up on that awesome new series that you missed while watching too many football games.

Watch Old Games

This is a very desperate move. I, personally, can’t stand to watch sports events after they’re happened. For me, most of the fun is knowing that what I’m watching is happening that very moment, and that thousands, or even millions, of people are watching with me. But, desperate times call for desperate measures. When all else fails, pull up that awesome game from last season and relive the magic. This time, you won’t be a stressed out, either, because you’ll know how it ends.
