The Detroit Lions’ time has come. Hear us roar. As someone who grew up a lifelong Lions fan, watching the team lose almost every Thanksgiving day game as a child, I honestly didn’t think I’d see this kind of success come out of the Lions camp in my lifetime. But, it’s 2023, and here we are. Thursday night football (Sept. 29) brought a huge win for the Lions against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. The Lions took the lead early in the game, and the Packers just never got their footing. Now, the Lions are the NFC North champs. Here’s a Detroit Lions recap.
The Detroit Lions game out the game roaring at Lambeau Field. They scored early in the game and ruled the first half of the game. However, the Packers came back in the second half. The Lions had a 24-point lead by half, but the Packers scored the first two touchdowns of the second half and quickly got 10 points back on the scoreboard. It was a nerve-wracking time, and Lions fans started to wonder if they’d fold. But, the Lions eventually came back around, solidifying a 34-20 win.
The Detroit Lions certainly made their statement. This isn’t a flash-in-the-pan team. The Kansas City Chiefs game wasn’t an anomaly. The Lions are here to stay and challenge even the best contenders.
Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery had a huge game. Montgomery was previously with the Chicago Bears, and he signed with the Lions before this season. He ran for 121 yards and three touchdowns. Montgomery was obviously one of the smarted signs by Dan Cambpell and Brad Holmes. Following the game, Montgomery told the press, “It felt real different coming in. With the group of guys that I’m with, like I said, ‘I’m blessed.'”
My No. 1 game highlight was Kalif Raymond’s 40-yard run at the beginning of the game. It really helped move the momentum to the Lions early in the game. The huge play also included a solid block from quarterback Jared Goff.
Following the big win, Goff sounded confident, and for good reason. He’s blossoming with the Lions. He’s just the kind of leader this team has needed for years. “Send us anywhere,” he said after the game, during a post-game press conference. “We’ll be ready. That’s the way we’re built.”
Detroit Lions EDGE Aiden Hutchinson was grinning from ear-to-ear after the game. Hutchinson, a University of Michigan graduate and lifelong Michigander, knows the rivalry between the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers well. “I grew up with Aaron Rodgers kicking our a** every year,” he said during a post-game interview on Amazon. “It’s good to be on the winning side of things. Aaron’s out of the division. Life is good right now, but we’re gonna keep working.”
Next up, the Detroit Lions will take on the Carolina Panthers Sunday at Ford Field. Meanwhile, Green Bay has a week off, and then they’re back on Monday Night Football on Oct. 9, going up against the Las Vegas Raiders.
