It’s early in the season, but people are already thinking of the Super Bowl. Actually, thinking about the Super Bowl is a year-round thing for NFL fans. The Kansas City Chiefs have been the most successful team at winning the Super Bowl for the past few years, as they took home the ring in 2020 and again in 2023. But, what team has the most Super Bow wins?
The First Super Bowl: Super Bowl 1
Before we get to the most wins, let’s look at the history of the Super Bowl. The first event happened as Super Bowl I, marking the debut AFL–NFL World Championship Game, and was played on Jan. 15, 1967, at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles, California. For that game, the National Football League (NFL) champion, the Green Bay Packers, took on the American Football League (AFL) champion, the Kansas City Chiefs. In that game the Green Bay Packers came out on top, winning 35–10. That definitely gives Packers fans bragging rights.
What Teams Have Never Won a Super Bowl?
Believe it or not, a lot of teams have actually never won a Super Bowl. When I was first doing research for this story, I thought that maybe two or three teams had never won a Super Bowl, But, it turns out that a dozen teams have never won a Super Bowl. The teams that have never won a Super Bowl are the Arizona Cardinals, Atlanta Falcons, Buffalo Bills, Carolina Panthers, Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars, Los Angeles Chargers, Minnesota Vikings and Tennessee Titans.
What Team Has the Most Super Bowl Wins?
So, what team has the most Super Bowl wins? It’s actually two teams, tied for No. 1. It would be great to see one of these teams win another one and hold onto that title themselves. The AFC’s Pittsburgh Steelers and New England Patriots have the most Super Bowl titles, with each having won six games. Next, when it comes to just getting to the game, the Patriots actually have also have the most Super Bowl appearances, as they’ve been to the Big Game 11 times. at 11. Looking at the NFC, the Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers have the most Super Bowl titles at five each. Also, the Cowboys have the most Super Bowl appearances at eight. So, it’s makes sense that these teams – the Steelers, Patriots, Cowboys and 49ers – always have a solid fanbase, even with football fans who have never lived in their respective cities. Winning garners fans. Since these teams are the most winning, they have that build in fanbase.
On the other hand, I’m a Detroit Lions fan. Winning has not been our strongest thing the past few, well, decades. As aforementioned, we’re one of the teams that has never won a Super Bowl. That’s why in 2023, it feels incredible to be a Lions fan. We actuary have hope at a playoff run. Heck, we could even get to the Super Bowl. Strangers things have happened. The Lions beat the Chiefs during the opening NFL game of the season, and here are some NFL takeaways.
